Mr. Piotr Opalinski
Islamabad: On 11th November we celebrate the National Independence Day of Poland,
which commemorates the events of 1918 when Poland regained its independence
after 123 years of partitions and foreign occupation. Today's Poland is the
most free, prosperous and safest ever since the 17th century.

H. E. Mr. Piotr Opalinski - Ambassador of Poland |
However, this year's celebrations fall at a difficult time globally. The
whole world is struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, which completely
changes our everyday lives. Any history of any nation has its heroes. Today our
heroes are the doctors, nurses, emergency crews and the whole personnel of the
health services. Their professionalism and devotion deserve the highest
respect.
As Poland is the birthplace of Solidarity Movement it has now also
become the beating heart of solidarity with other countries and peoples. It is
our tradition to support the freedom of other nations. As some of our Pakistani
Friends are aware, from 1948 onwards, right at the nascent state of Pakistan
independence, a large group of Polish airmen, and also some navy officers,
greatly contributed to the development of Pakistani Defence, Air Force and
civil aviation. Today, we stay united in fighting against the spread of the
pandemic with strong measures. And today, our friendship manifests itself also in
the multifaceted cooperation and mutual support.
From my personal perspective, having served a total of 11 years in
Islamabad – first six as deputy head of the mission and now five years as ambassador
of Poland to Pakistan – I am very happy to see our two countries developing
fast, both our economies having more to offer to each other, the trade exchange
growing to the level of half billion Euro annually and also the direct
investment being increased, especially by the Polish Oil & Gas Company
(PGNiG), which operates in Pakistan for more than two decades now. It also gives
me a real satisfaction to note the invigorated cultural, academic and people to
people contacts. All this makes me see our future bright. Poland - Pakistan ki Dosti
– Zindabad!
